Rubber Tree

Standing outstandingly on the mountain foot near the expanse of my owner’s house, I feel very happy when a cool breeze slowly blows, giving me a space to dance and sharing my breath to my owner. It is still fresh in my mind when I was young; I had got smooth, slick and brown skin. I had a very green hair and white blood. I intended to apprise my friends of my appearance. I stood happily and strongly, never being hit by storm. I had very good balance. Furthermore, I always enjoyed myself with the seasons came to me jubilantly – rainy, autumn and drought. Each season I tasted differently. For autumn, I used to drop my hair in order to get the new one. The rainy, I accumulated all energy to nurture myself for oncoming drought. The drought, I tried to manage to survive from it by standing idly – doing nothing. Unfortunately, now my skin becomes rough and hard because my owner comes to tap me to get my blood as I am informed that my blood is very worth. My hair is dissipating, gradually wither. I am starting to feel dizzy, leading to losing my balance. At the moment, I am getting old; my blood is getting dry and dry. My owner is beginning to complaint about me. From now on I could never feel happy anymore. At some time in the near future I will definitely be cut down for sale.  

เรียงความ: มหาวิทยาลัยกับประโยชน์ที่ได้รับ

หลายคนคิดว่าการที่เราจะสร้างสังคมหรือพัฒนาสังคมนั้นให้เราเป็นบัณฑิตก่อน หรือให้เรามีตำแหน่งทางสังคมมีหน้ามีตาในสังคมและต้องเป็นที่ยอมรับของคนในสังคม  ในขณะเดียวกันหลายคนก็คิดว่าการเป็นนักศึกษานั้นเราต้องมานั่งเรียนในรั้วมหาวิทยาลัย ต้องค้นคว้าหน้าจอคอมพิวเตอร์ ต้องไปนั่งอ่านหนังสือที่ห้องสมุด โดยที่เราไม่ควรออกไปไหนเพื่อเรียนโลกภายนอก ผมมองว่าช่วงชีวิตของคนเราที่สำคัญมากที่สุดก็คือ ช่วงวัยเรียน เพราะเป็นเวลาที่แสนสนุกในการที่ค้นคว้าเรียนรู้ทั้งในและนอกรั้วสถาบันที่เรียกว่า โรงเรียนหรือมหาวัทยาลัย ดังนั้นอย่างที่ผมได้กล่าวมาข้างต้น ผมไม่ได้จะบอกว่า การไปนั่งอ่านหนังสือที่สถานที่ที่เรียกกันว่า ห้องสมุด หรือเรียนรู้ในรั้วมหาวิทยาลัยเป็นสิ่งที่ไม่สมควรทำ แต่ผมเล็งเห็นถึงการศึกษาโลกภายนอกมีความสำคัญไม่น้อยไปกว่าการศึกษาในรั้วมหาวิทยาลัย เพราะโลกภายนอกมีอะไรที่น่าเรียนรู้อะไรมากมาย อีกทั้งผมมองว่าเราในฐานะนักศึกษาที่ถูกเรียกว่า ปัญญาชน เป็นคนที่มีสติปัญญาที่พร้อมจะนำไปสู่การเกิดการพัฒนา ต้องทำอะไรที่เกิดการเปลี่ยนแปลงไปสู่ทางที่ดีขึ้นทั้งตัวเองผู้อื่น หรือถ้าเรียกกันง่ายก็คือ ให้เกิดประโยชน์แก่ตนเองและผู้อื่น อย่างเช่น การนำคุณธรรมจริยธรรมกลับสู่สังคมอีกครั้ง ทำให้ตัวเองและผู้อื่นมีมารยาทที่ดี หลังจากคำนี้ค่อนข้างที่เลือนลางไปทุกทีจากสังคมของเรา  หรือการนำความรู้ไปสู่การปัฎิบัติ เหล่านี้เป็นต้น สำหรับผมแล้ว ตลอดเกือบสี่ปีที่ผมได้มีโอกาส (ขอบคุณอัลลอฮ) ใช้ชีวิตในรั้วที่คนเรียกกันว่า มหาวิทยาลัย เป็นแหล่งข้อมูล แหล่งความรู้ที่ใหญ่ที่สุด ในบบรรดาสถาบันการศึกษา โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่ง มหาวิทยาลัยที่มีชื่อว่า มหาวิทยาลัยอิสลาม จากนั้นผมขอขอบทุกคนที่เกี่บวข้องที่ได้โอกาสทุกคนได้มีการศึกษาในพื้นที่แห่งนี้

ตลอดระยะเวลาผมได้ใช้ชีวิตในรั้วมหาวัทยาลัยก็ได้รับโอกาสไปทำกิจกรรมมากมายส่วนใหญ่เป็นกิจกรรมนอกรั้วมหาวิทยาลัย ผมรู้สึกว่ามันเป็นเวลาที่ผมไม่อยากจะจากไปเลย เริ่มตั้งแต่ปี ๒๕๕๑ ซึ่งผมคิดว่าเป็นช่วงเวลาที่ผมเริ่มได้รับโอกาสได้ทำกิจกรรมอย่างเต็มที่

โดยส่วนตัวแล้วการที่ได้รับโอกาสไปช่วยเหลือสังคมนั้น หรือการที่มีส่วนร่วมในการช่วยเหลือหรือมีส่วนร่วมในการแก้ปัญหาต่างๆเป็นสิ่งที่มีความสุข อย่างเมื่อวันที่ ๒๔ ตุลาคม ๒๕๕๑ ทางศูนย์อำนวยการบริหารจังหวัดชายแดนภาคใต้ได้จัดโครงการประกวดเรียงความและเผยแผ่สามภาษาคือ ภาษาไทย ภาษามาลายูและภาษาอังกฤษ  หัวข้อ เสียงสะท้อนจากแดนใต้ โดยเปิดโอกาสให้นักเรียนนักศึกษาในพื้นที่สามจังหวัดชายแดนภาคใต้แสดงความคิดเห็นต่อปัญหาที่เกิดขึ้น ก็ปรากฎว่าผมได้รับรางวัลรองชนะเลิศอันดับสองของเรียงความภาษาอังกฤษ  ปี ๒๕๕๑ และ๒๕๕๒ ผมได้รับโอกาสไปเป็นครูอาสา ณ ภาคอีสานจังหวัดข่อนแก่นเป็นเวลาหนึ่งเดือน ในปีเดียวกันก็ได้รับโอกาสทำหน้าเป็นคณะกรรมองค์การบริหารนักศึกษา ปี ๕๒ และเป็นตัวแทนไปเข้าร่วมค่ายพหุวัฒนธรรม ณ มหาวิทยาลัยเกษมบัณฑิต ในเวลานั้นได้เรียนรู้อะไรมากมาย โดยเฉพาะในด้านการเป็นอยู่ในสังคมพหุวัฒธรรม ถึงแม้ในเวลานั้นผมรู้สึกเหนื่อยการที่จะต้องไปมาตลอดบ้างครั้งต้องล้มป่วยบ้าง แต่เนื่องจากทำไปแล้วมีความสุขก็เลยทำต่อ

ในปีเดียวกัน ทางมูลนิธิจีโอไอ (Goi foundation) ประเทศญี่ปุ่น อยู่ภายใต้ยูเนสโค สหประชาชาติซึ่งทำงานเกี่ยวกับการสร้างสันติภาพ ได้จัดประกวดเรียงความภาษาอังกฤษ หัวข้อ How would you shape your city ผมได้เข้าร่วมประกวดดังกล่าวด้วย นอกจากผมได้รับโอกาสที่จะพัฒนาทักษะการเขียนแล้ว ผมได้รับประกาศณียบัตรที่แตกต่างจากทั่วไป ซึ่งประกาศณียบัตรมีขนานเล็กกว่ากระดาษ A4 ที่สำคัญ ถึงแม้ผมไม่ได้รับรางวัลอะไรในการประกวดในครั้งนี้ แต่อย่างน้อยผมเป็นคนหนึ่งที่มีส่วนร่วมในการที่จะสร้างสันติภาพในโลกกลมๆใบนี้

ในปีที่ผ่านมาทางสาขาภาษาอังกฤษ มหาวิทยาลัยอิสลามยะลา ได้จัดประกวดกล่าวสุทรพัจน์ภาษาอังกฤษ ผมก็ได้เข้าร่วมประกวดด้วย ผลปรากฎว่าผมได้รางวัลชนะเลิศอันดับหนึ่ง และได้เป็นตัวแทนมหาวิทยาลัยไปแข่งขันกล่าวสุทรพัจน์ภาษาอังกฤษประดับประเทศ ณ มหาวิทยาลัยสงขลานคริทรน์ วิทยาเขตภูเก็ต จากเวทีนั้นได้เรียนรู้อะไรมากมายเกี่ยวกับทักษะการพูด โดยเฉพาะการพูดในที่สาธารณะ ยิ่งไปกว่านั้นผมและเพื่อนๆนักศึกษาอีก ๑๕ ท่าน ได้รับโอกาสเข้าประกวดโครงการ SIFE (Student In Free Enterprise) ซึ่งเป็นโครงการที่เปิดโอกาสให้นักศึกษาไปร่วมพัฒนาชุมชนในนามของมหาวิทยาลัย โดยมีอาจารย์สุบันโญ จีณรงณ์ เป็นที่ปรึกษา สำหรับทีมของมหาวิทยาลัยอิสลามอิสลามยะลาไปร่วมพัฒนา หมู่บ้านปราแว อำเภอยะหริ่ง จังหวัดปัตตานี และทีมนั้นได้รับโอกาสไปร่วมพัฒนาเป็นเวลาสองปีด้วยกัน คือปี ๒๕๕๒-๒๕๕๓ ในการประกวดในครั้งนี้ได้จัดขึ้น ณ จุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย ผลปรากฏว่า มหาวิทยาลัยอิสลามยะลาได้รับรางวัล SIFE Spirit award สองปีซ้อน

ในปีเดียวกันคือ ๒๕๕๒ ผมขอขอบคุณอาจารย์สุรชัย ไวยวรรณจิตร มหาวิทยาลัยอิสลามยะลา ที่ให้โอกาสผมได้ไปสอนหนังสือ ณ โรงเรียนนูรูลอิสลาม อำเภอยะหริ่ง จังหวัดปัตตานี และให้โอกาสผมได้ไปติวน้องๆมัธยมกับท่านตามโรงเรียนต่างๆในช่วงวันหยุด ในระหว่างนั้นผมได้รับโอกาสจากทางโรงเรียนไปเข้าอบรมเชิงปฏิบัติการจัดทำหลักสูตรสถานศึกษา ระดับมัธยมศึกษาตามหลักสูตรูแกนกลางการศึกษาขั้นพื้น พทธศักราช ๒๕๕๑ และที่สำคัญท่านให้โอกาสผมได้เข้าเป็นคณะกรรมการของคณะทำงานเสียงเล็กๆเพื่อสันติภาพด้วย ซึ่งเป็นองค์กรที่ทำงานเกี่ยวกับการศึกษาในพื้นที่สามจังหวัดชายแดนภาคใต้ โดยเปิดโอกาสให้น้องๆได้สัมผัสกับแบบอย่างข้อสอบที่จะสอบเข้ามหาวิทยาลัย โดยทางคณะทำงานจะจัดโครงการลักษณะนี้ทุกปี

และที่น่ายินดีไปกว่า ผมได้รับรางวัลรองชนะเลิศอันดับหนึ่งในการประกวดเรียงความภาษาอังกฤษ จัดโดยทางศูนย์การศึกษาต่อประเทศนิวซีแลนด์ ประจำประเทศไทย หรือ NZ study of Thailand ในหัวข้อ How much do you know about New Zealand พร้อมได้รับโอกาสไปเรียนภาษาอังกฤษ ณ ประเทศนิวซีแลนด์ ที่สถาบันสอนภาษาในเมื่องออคแลนด์ (Unique New Zealand) ภายหลังกลับจากประเทศนิวซีแลนด์ ผมและเพื่อนๆนักศึกษาได้เข้าร่วมโครงการ “กล้าใหม้ใฝ่รู้” จัดโดยธนาคารไทยพาณิชย์ จากโครงการดังกล่าวทีมมหาวิทยาลัยอิสลามยะลาได้รับรางวัลชมเชย ซึ่งมีชื่อโครงการว่า “โรงปุ๋ยชีวภาพกับการพิทักษ์โลกร้อนสู่ความยั่งยืนหมู่บ้านปราแว” ในการนี้ผมได้ประสบการณ์มากมาย อาทิเช่น เรียนรู้การบริหารจัดการชุมชน เรียนรู้การบริหารจัดการทีมและการทำงานเป็นทีม เหล่านี้เป็นต้น

สุดท้ายผมขอขอบคุณทุกท่านที่เกี่ยวข้องที่ได้เปิดโอกาสให้ผมและเพื่อนๆได้เรียนรู้สิ่งใหม่ๆและท้าทายที่เป็นประโยชน์ อันนำไปสู่การเกิดการพัฒนาของตวเองและชุมชนที่ยั่งยืนอีกต่อไป และที่สำคัญผมขอบคุณอัลลอฮที่เลือกผมและเพื่อนๆเป็นผู้พัฒนาชุมชน ผมสัญญาว่าจะเอาความรู้และประสบการณ์ที่ได้รับไปใช้ในทางที่ถูกต้องอันสามรถเกิดประโยชน์แก่ส่วนรวม อินซาอัลลอฮครับ

The qualities of a Teacher

1.      A teacher should be live and attractive.

As far as the above-mentioned is concerned, the word “live” the teacher should have a smiling face. To put it simply, he or she should have a sense of humor that, probably, could uplift students at a time they are getting sick of the class. In the meantime, by the word “attractive” the teacher should act by means of speaking and behaving attractively – for some instance, if they feel discouraged, from teacher’s the way of speaking, they feel better. Also, they could correctly copy the way of teacher’s behaving.

2.      A teacher should be sympathy and tolerant.

As students come all walk of life, in the class there are variety of backgrounds and behaviors. At this point, the teacher should be willing to accept these. Together with, the teacher should tolerantly teach them in case they behave incorrectly. For example, they are disputing about the culture – the teacher should feel sympathy for them all, but the teacher has deliberate attempt to clarify that humans were born out of various social sphere.   

3.      A teacher should be intellectually and morally honest.

The teacher should not mean to trick students. If the teacher says something to them, he or she has to teach them the right things and direct them into the right path – because in the materialistic-oriented society, there are a lot of unforeseen hazardous circumstances that possibly lead them the wrong path.

4.      A teacher should be mentally alert.

It cannot be ruled out the possibility that students are not active and knowledgeable. They, sometimes, feel sleepy and are unaware of what is going on in the class: the teacher has to be prepared for that by promoting motivation or inspiration wisely and cleverly.

5.      A teacher should be capable of infinite patience.

While doing those-mentioned – including tense atmosphere in the class, the teacher should cleverly, wisely and thoughtfully solve the problems. He or she should not lose temper with the circumstances. For example, if students are fighting, teacher should talk frankly and privately with them. Then, when coming to the class, the teacher should play some games so that students can enjoy the class. Most importantly, it can be the place for tying relationship among them.

6.      A teacher should keep on learning.

As humans are not all perfect, they should be on learning. As I mentioned above – the students have different backgrounds, at the beginning of the class, the teacher should ask something related to their daily lives or about their backgrounds. This is the way of learning one another. 

My Memorable Events in New Zealand

It was still vivid memory at the time when I had first experienced a very impressive event in the country named as the land of the long white cloud and green hills, New Zealand (NZ). In the light of being placed as the runner-up of the essay competition organized by NZ study of Thailand, my life was in good heart because I was given a chance to take a short course in NZ. When I heard the wheels touching the runway with a screeching sound, from a distressed face, I could have a grin smile back on my face again – feeling happy.

          My first observation was looking around that made me feel happy while a person and I were walking together to the parking area. It was very clean and systematic parking area. While we were on the road to my home-stay where I was going to live, I had asked and observed many things from both sides of the road that I had never seen in Thailand before. Everything was set systematically. In the meanwhile, everyone was abiding by the rule of traffic. I thought it was very rare chance of traffic accidence to happen.   In addition, even the vehicle which I was on, the driver did not even turn air-conditioner on – besides saving energy, they (New Zealanders) could stay off from causing global warming.

          Once getting to the home-stay, I had a good time there because the hosts were very nice to me. They gave me a warm welcome by greeting me in a polite and friendly way at the gate. Then, I was brought into the house and introduced how to utilize all house appliances. For everyday life, they had always invited me to have food together with them and always provided me the food that I could have. In the morning I was supplied with the serial food which I had never tried before. And for dinner they cooked a very good taste food for me, NZ traditional food in particular.  Apart from that, either waking up in the morning or coming back from school they always kept asking me about my well-being or how was life going on. These were very fascinating to live in this family.

          For everyday life, I had to study five days a week – Monday to Friday – 6 hours per day, 9 A.M to 3 P.M. In the morning, I must get myself ready before 8 o’clock in order to settle with weather; otherwise, I could be feeling colder, together with having breakfast. Interestingly, there were no any buses pass the way between my home-stay to school. So, I had to take a walk for school 4 kilometers a day. At first, I thought how could I walk such a long distance – it would be very tired for me. The first few days, my home-stay mother had dropped me at the corner near the school where I was studying, but after that I helped myself by setting out in the morning and come back in the afternoon by walking. I found that while on the way to school, I had learned many things both from people and from ambiance as aftermath. From people, when I met them they were always giving a big smile and greeting me with a sweet sound “hello! How are you?” – Even if they had not known me before. From surrounding, I walk through the park where I could see serene natural view – very green trees and a lot of beautiful small hills in the park. When I looked at the sky, there were a lot of white long clouds. And I could feel very cold because there was always a freezing wind blowing, coming from the south of NZ where there was a large scale of snow there.

          Moreover, the atmosphere of study in class was very hilarious and useful. The lessons prepared by teachers were not too difficult to come across because many of them were conveyed by learning through Games. At the initiative, I could not adapt myself with the new method of learning because, sometimes, I was not widely awake due to freezing weather. Later on, I settled in. I learned how to think. I learned how memorize vocabulary. I learned how speak, write, listen and read English effectively and accurately. As a result, from this class I was certified by advance level of learning English – IELTS (International English language Testing System.  

          Since three weeks that I had been in NZ, I had learned many new things that influence my life. All those-mentioned has still painted a vivid picture and been a very memorable event in my life that I could some time in the future recall a smile on my face again.  

                

            

The father of mine

When I was a child, I was always raising some questions related to a man who always concerned about whatever I had done. Most of the questions raised in my mind were that “why” why did he always concern me? Why did he have to do so? Who was he?

Most of the time when he spoke to me or taught me, I felt awkward, I lost my confidence, and it made me discouraged because, sometimes, he involuntarily punished me if I was too naughty. Year after year, I gradually became aware of his action. The awareness of his action ran through my mind as he had a good intention, and he wished me to be able to live the society. Asked could I describe about his appearance and his personality the answer, of course, is why not. Now, I am to write about his appearance, his personalities and his daily life.

To begin with, he has a very unique appearance. Normally, it is believed that his appearance and mine are twin. Whenever we go out people cannot tell apart. Why do I say so? Because he has got a short hair like me. He is slightly dark skin. His face is oval as mine. Also, his height is as high as mine. The body of him is slim compared to mine; whereas, my body there seems to be turning to skinny one for me.

Most Importantly, I do appreciate about his personalities. In the mornings, he often encourages to read al-Quraan together with needing me to ponder over its meaning. When it comes to prayer, he has always been taking the lead by going to Masjid with time to spare for Sunat prayer. For everyday life, if any of family members does something wrong, he frankly and directly reminds and tells never do that again. It is decent of him that he is always adhering to sense-talking. In the same time, he has a sense of humor as well when perceiving that members of the family are getting stressful that he could make us laugh. All these are the personalities of him that I could mention here roughly.

The last but not least, as I can say, he is workaholic person. He places very importance on getting cost of living in order that I could attain the higher education.  Once the sun is starting to appear at the beyond horizon, he starts to concentrate on his job, doing a small business. He never gives up his strive to find new consumers whether in the provinces nearby or our neighboring country like Malaysia. In brief, he mostly sacrifices himself into the job, but he never forgets to share his worthy time with the family.

How luckiest I am. To date, I do realize that besides the other person who very much love me, my mother, there is the other one, at the tender age, whom I was always picturing that he was always strict on whatever I had done, my father. And asked are there any people in the globe who come and help us without wanting any returns. In addition, from now on what is bound to be in the future, I will definitely love and will take care two of them as they do. Insha-allaah, with the permission from Allaah I will never let them down for what they have pinned hope over me.

How does the clash of colors affect Muslims in Thailand

In the past, Thailand had been named as “the land of smile” where there were many peoples coming all walk of lives, paid a visit to this historical country, while the so-called clashing of colors was unknown to them. Also, awareness of conflict of colors would come impossibly; they might have thought that sort of such conflict was beyond their imaginations.

However, in this day and age, the clash of colors –red and yellow shirts – unexpectedly occurs that has left Thai society in great rift, being difficult to heal the rift. Since then, the red shirt and the yellow have played a vital role in marking a change in Thai political circle. To put it simply, the people are clad in their liking colors and walk up to streets in the capital of Thailand – Bangkok. At the time of the accused Thaksin’s nominee administration, the yellow shirt was staging a peaceful demonstration with intent to get rid of the government. On the contrary, late last year, the political polarity had been changed into the Democrat party, joined hand by other parties as the coalition government. For this unfortunate year for Thailand, the red shirt has held the street-protest they took the place where Thais consider it as the main economic hub, Ratchaprasong intersection. For this havoc, Thailand has suffered a great damage.

Regardless of being a partisan to either color, the effects have been obvious to Muslims whose religion – Islam – prohibits to take part in the protest. In this respect, we could draw the effects that have on Muslims in Thailand as follow: ideologies differences, political power resuming and not being faithful with the king.

In the first place, the red and the yellow have different ideologies. For the red, as generally known and said, they are trying to spread their ideologies as a means to an end, dealing with double standard and try to get Thaksin back. Rather, it is believed that they endeavor to change the kingdom state into the presidency state. Whereas, the yellow is aimed at disposing of corruption state that, previously, led by Thaksin Shinnawatra the former Thai prime minister. Both of them have been struggling to win Thais’ heart in order to gain favors from them. Regarding these ideologies, as soon as Muslims believe and take into their daily lives, they automatically become split among themselves. As the case happened in the northeastern of Thailand, Muslims were taking side, in which there are two groups have been divided – the one side is red and the other is yellow. To date, they cannot even go to the coffee shop and have a talk together like before because they may have problem. This is considered as a big problem happened that Muslims are inclined to support such ideologies. In addition, Islam never teaches us to be disunited.

Consequently, we would never deny that after winning the people heart, both of them will run political campaign in a bid to resume to political power. What they have to do is they hold an address in order to gain support from people, sometimes, by sneering at the political opponent. As the case happened this at the Ratchaprasong intersection, there were many Muslims who participated the protest, as it was generally known that they were hired. This activity engages Muslims to be away from Islamic teaching. They seem to be into politic that finally results in partisanship among them. In fact, Islam has already provided the way of administration as it gives us “Shuro” the way of consultancy. For Muslims, before electing the leader, they have to Shuro by the committees set up.     

At last, they are accusing each other of not being faithful to his Majesty the King. This accuse was used at the time when the yellow shirt stage a protest at the time of Thaksin’s nominee administration. The yellow said the red was not faithful to the king by trying to turn administration in Thailand into presidency. According to common belief, if Thais are faithful to the King, they have to be cad in yellow. Accordingly, for somebody who dresses up in red, they are believed to be unfaithful to the King. For this issue, the yellow is now increasingly making a discourse heard, “we love our King”, resulting in many of the people, to date, holding this discourse. Thus, according to the discourse, Muslims are deviating from being fond of the prophet Muhammad (peace upon you), in spite of the fact that Islam states clearly that Muslims must obey Allaah, the prophet and the leader in their groups. Furthermore, for that matter, Islam places emphasis on sharing love, kindness and encourages Muslims to pay respect to others sincerely. Additionally, what Islam does not allow Muslims to do is they are forbidden to worship the King as Buddhists do.

Even though now the government can completely be able to deal with political uncertainty, the clash of colors might explode that might resort to violence again. In brief, neither the red nor the yellow is helpful and useful for Muslim daily lives. They just bring about the effects to Muslims.  What Muslims have to do when such violence happen is they have to distance themselves from the violence and try to make an effort to learn a lesson from it. Islam never recommends Muslims to participate the protest because, as far as it is observed, they can never stand to benefit from it. Supposing that Muslims never joined with them, apart from they could be able to show others how to live peacefully, they automatically became part of contributing to bringing peace and recalling the land of smile that Islam also encourages Muslims to give a big and sincere smile to others once again.
